The Woluwe outlet is the first eco-built store in Europe. To achieve this result, CAMELEON integrated an environmental aspect to each stage of the project, from its initial design to its final implementation.
To ensure CAMELEON WOLUWE would withstand the test of time, CAMELEON strove to ensure excellence in
5 areas : the choice of materials, biodiversity, the site location, the project conception and energy.

All the materials of the project were chosen based on an assessment of the energy which would be required for their production, transport, use and recycling.
CAMELEON strove to prioritise the use of local wood and, to offset the consumption thereof, replanted 1 200 trees in Ardennes.
All the products used (adhesives, solvents, etc.) were of natural origin when possible.
The 2 000m2 of roof space is covered with a vegetable prairie-type substrate.
CAMELEON installed beehives on the roof and in front of the building to allow the bees to pollenise the flowers.
The building is supplied by a dual network (rainwater / municipal water) in order to avoid any wasteful consumption of drinking water.
The Woluwe outlet offers a large area of natural comfort, constructed in harmony with the environment and boasting many green spaces
The shop is also a meeting place where visitors and residents can take advantage of the cafeteria and terraces which remain accessible, even outside normal opening times.
CAMELEON also has a communal crèche which can accommodate up to 39 children.
The shop has a natural ventilation system to avoid excessive energy usage due to air-conditioning.
The shop has high quality insulation, which is also environmentally friendly.
The orientation of the building was studied in order to optimise its exposure to sunlight based on the seasons.
The output of selected lighting allows the overall consumption of energy to be considerably reduced and likewise the amount of heat required.
The use of solar energy allows 14,000 Kwh to be saved each year, namely the annual consumption of 4 households in Brussels. Moreover, the hot water which supplies the crèche and the concerige room is provided by a thermal solar installation.
The use of a wood pellet boiler allows the Woluwe building to reduce to use of fossil fuels.
